This session will identify some of the common and/or serious adverse oral events associated with commonly used medications, and will aim to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the potential implications of these adverse events, recognize predisposing factors, and explore possible approaches to prevention and treatment.

Why we do what we do: Rational behind IPAC Interventions

Presenter: Cindy Isaak-Ploegman, RDH, BA, MEd
This course will provide participants with a process to determine and compare and contrast approaches to sterilization and disinfection as it relates to dental hygiene practice through recent literature findings (EBDM), recent trends in emerging infectious diseases both globally and locally, national standards and adherence to local licensing body requirements, and recent advances in dental treatment. Also this course will provide participants with an update on the importance of self-care of the dental hygienist and the relationship with infection prevention and control interventions such as immunization, risk management, hand hygiene, PPE and professionalism.

2018 AAP Periodontal Classification System – clear as mud?

*this workshop is being offered as a follow up to the lecture offered by CDHA after the 2019 MDHA AGM however it is not required that you attended the June session to register for this one.
With the recent changes in the periodontal classification system, your dental hygiene world may feel like it has been turned upside down – everything you have known and practiced regarding periodontal classification is new and different. The previous classification system was last updated in 1999 so this change is a big deal! If you are struggling to understand the new classification system or have had an introduction to system, but are wanting to understand it better, this workshop is for you. The workshop will provide participants with an overview of the new classification system as well as an opportunity to apply the new information to case studies.
