Advanced Ultrasonics Workshop Winnipeg, MB November 13, 2019 Staying Ahead of the Ultrasonic Curve COURSE TYPE: Advanced Ultrasonic Workshop COST: Discussion/Mini Hands-on – $80 (Members) $160 (non members) Max Attendance 24 * FACILITATOR: Dani Botbyl, RDH COURSE LENGTH: 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. (3 hours) LOCATION: Dr. Gerald Niznick, College of Dentistry Brass Lab Sponsored by Dentsply Sirona Canada COURSE DESCRIPTION: The science behind ultrasonic debridement is changing rapidly! New research shows that Canadian dental hygienists are not keeping pace and are underutilizing curved ultrasonic instruments. This one-of-a-kind workshop combines cutting-edge teaching methods with active ultrasonic equipment to focus on complete calculus removal and biofilm removal/disruption. RDHs of all levels will see improved clinical performance after completing this workshop. Participants will work with provided typodonts and magnetostrictive units/inserts. LEARNING OUTCOMES:Identify technique oversights that hinder clinical outcomes – demonstrate the most effective principles of ultrasonic instrumentation including grasp, fulcrum, insertion, lateral pressure, activation and adaptation.Increase removal of calculus and biofilm – compare ultrasonic instruments characteristics and demonstrate technique needed to reduce the adjunct use of hand instruments.Simplify curved left and right instruments – demonstrate most effective curved instrument adaptation in furcations, concavities and curved root surfaces; state the rationale for eliminating curettes.
