2020 Run for the Cure Goes Virtual!

This year the CIBC Run for the Cure will look VERY different as it will now be a virtual experience due to social distancing restrictions. This gives you the unique opportunity to make the run whatever we want it to be. You can get your office together, a small group of friends and family, or even challenge yourself to run/walk/jog a 5k to raise money for breast cancer research. Be creative with location, gear, and be sure to incorporate dental hygiene in some way or another. The top three sub-teams on MDHA Brush for the Cure will be selected by the Board and MDHA members then have the chance to vote for their favourite, this teams photo will be featured in the Montage. The team that receives the most votes will also receive a prize package of treats and products from local Manitoba companies (prize worth over $250!) to share amongst your team!

This year because we can’t engage in person, the event will unfortunately not be eligible for PAR. However, this should not stop us. Our team has always worked together to raise money for the important work Cancer Care does and I encourage everyone to continue to do so. Please join us!

The first step is to download the CIBC Run for the Cure App. Here, you can sign up for team MDHA Brush for the Cure and track your progress. Or, simply visit this link to register online. Cancer Care is continuing to develop their exciting virtual experience which will still include an inspirational opening ceremony, a high-energy warm-up and a few other surprises.

I hope to “see” you all there October 4th. Tag us on Instagram @mdha__ with the hashtag #mdhabrushforthecure2020 with your team all geared up on Run Day for a chance to win.

Your Team Captain,

– Jasmine Bonenfant

Mentors Needed!

Posted by on Aug 2, 2020 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

The Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association (MDHA) is in search of Registered Dental Hygienists who are MDHA members and would like to become a mentor within the Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association (MDHA)/School of Dental Hygiene (SDH) Mentorship Program. The mentorship committee has been busy planning for a new VIRUTAL mentorship program. We are very excited to open up the program to dental hygienists across Manitoba as the virtual component of our program now gives MDHA member dental hygienists across Manitoba the opportunity to participate in this program. This program plays a vital role in a dental hygiene student’s transition from student to private practice. As a mentor, you will have a lasting impact on your mentee’s educational experience and future in dental hygiene.
Your role as a dental hygiene mentor would include:
1) A two year commitment (ie. you would remain with your student for the duration of their 2 years in the School of Dental Hygiene).
2) Attend an online orientation session each fall over the 2 years.
3) Connect with your student online twice in the fall and twice in the spring – this is replacing the in-office private practice observations.
5) Be an available resource for your student if they have questions, concerns, or require support throughout their 2 year education.
We would love to have you as part of our Mentorship Program. We invite registered dental hygienists from all walks of the profession – newer grads, established DH’s, specialty practice DH’s, etc. All we ask is that mentors have at least one year of experience in the profession and are a MDHA member. Keep in mind, volunteering for the Mentorship Program is a great way to achieve your PAR requirements through CDHM, and have fun doing it!
The commitment is small, but the rewards are BIG!
Interested? Have questions? Contact Kathy Yerex Katherine.yerex@umanitoba.ca or Kaleigh Warden Kaleigh.warden@umanitoba.ca We are excited to hear from you!
