The science behind ultrasonic debridement is changing rapidly!  New research shows that Canadian dental hygienists are not keeping pace and are underutilizing curved ultrasonic instruments. This one-of-a-kind workshop combines cutting-edge teaching methods with active ultrasonic equipment to focus on complete calculus removal and biofilm removal/disruption. RDHs of all levels will see improved clinical performance after completing this workshop.

Participants will work with provided typodonts and magnetostrictive units/inserts.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:Identify technique oversights that hinder clinical outcomes – demonstrate the most effective principles of ultrasonic instrumentation including grasp, fulcrum, insertion, lateral pressure, activation and adaptation.Increase removal of calculus and biofilm – compare ultrasonic instruments characteristics and demonstrate technique needed to reduce the adjunct use of hand instruments.Simplify curved left and right instruments – demonstrate most effective curved instrument adaptation in furcations, concavities and curved root surfaces; state the rationale for eliminating curettes.

Join the MDHA/SDH Mentorship Committee

Posted by on Jun 19, 2019 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

The Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association is in search of Registered Dental Hygienists & MDHA members who would like to become a mentor within the MDHA/SDH Mentorship Program. The mentorship committee has been busy planning for NEW and creative ways to actively engage Registered Dental Hygienists and dental hygiene students to create a positive and meaningful impact on our community. This program plays a vital role in a Dental Hygiene student’s transition from student to private practice. As a mentor, you will have a lasting impact on your mentee’s educational experience and future in Dental Hygiene.

Your role as a Dental Hygiene mentor would include:

1) A two year commitment (ie. you would remain with your student for the duration of their 2 years in the School of Dental Hygiene)

2) Attend an MDHA sponsored evening per term, 2-3 events throughout the 2 years.

3) Allowing your student to observe you in private practice.

5) Be an available resource for your student if they have questions, concerns, or require support throughout their 2 year education.

We would love to have you as part of our Mentorship Program. We invite Registered Dental Hygienists from all walks of the profession – newer grads, established DH’s, specialty practice DH’s, etc. All we ask is that mentors have at least one year of experience in the profession and practice within Winnipeg, MB or the surrounding area. Keep in mind, volunteering for the Mentorship Program is a great way to achieve your PAR requirements through CDHM, and have fun doing it!

The commitment is small, but the rewards are BIG!

Interested? Have questions? Contact Kathy Yerex or Kaleigh Warden We are excited to hear from you!
