 Course Synopsis
This relaxed, informal and interactive workshop will highlight some of the latest sharpening strategies and techniques, and demonstrate various automated powered devices that are used to achieve sharp cutting edges on periodontal instruments.  Participants will be guided through a series of “hands-on” exercises, which will actively focus on:

SIMPLIFICATION — of manual sharpening techniques ·
UTILIZATION — of sharpening strategies and techniques
IMPLEMENTATION — of various automated powered devices

Course Objectives:
 
By the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to
-List the advantages of sharp instruments
-Define the cutting edge on a variety of instruments
-Evaluate an instrument for sharpness
-Identify useful sharpening strategies and techniques
-Implement safe manual and guided sharpening practices effectively
-Gain an overall sense of assurance and confidence as a result of a new perspective and attitude toward sharpening

Participants must bring their own instruments to this workshop {a sickle scaler, a universal curette (Barnhart, Columbia, or McCall), and a Gracey curette}. Diamond sharpening cards, Arkansas stones, ceramic stones, acrylic test sticks and sharpening instruction tools will be provided.
