Ergonomics and Dental Work

Posted by on Apr 30, 2012 in workshops | 0 comments

Dental workers have often reported the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain – the low back, neck, shoulders, and hands being the most common sites. To address these issues and bring awareness to the importance of prevention within this field, Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers Inc. (OHCOW) and the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) have recently collaborated on the development of a new fact sheet entitled “Ergonomics and Dental Work”.

Whether for students or those practicing in the field, ergonomics is so important to ensure the risk of long term injuries can be avoided. The link for the Ergonomics and Dental work booklet can be found at:

The document is only available in English at this time but the French version is in the final stages of completion.

OHCOW has given permission for linkage and use of the booklet. All they ask in return is for you to let them know if you are using the document in your private practice, classrooms, or any other use. You can also request to be notified when the french version is available. Please contact Trever, of OHCOW, by email (, fax (705-523-2606), or phone (toll free 1-800-461-7120).

The Manitoba Lung Association will hold a second annual quit smoking and win contest. Last year we had 1,600 participants make a quit attempt in order to be eligible for cash prizes.

Manitoba residents, age 18 and over, are eligible to enter. Visit for contest details and to register. Each participant must enter with a buddy (smoker or non-smoker) and pledge to stay absolutely smoke-free from May 1 to May 31. A random draw to determine potential winners will be held June 1. After verification of smoke-free status, winners will be declared. There are five prizes of $1,000 each. Buddies of the winners will also win $200 each and there are also Early Bird prizes just for registering. The contest is sponsored by the Lung Association and Manitoba Healthy Living.
