It’s almost that time of year again…… National Dental Hygienists Week!!!!

National Dental Hygienists Week, April 8-14th, is quickly approaching and MDHA needs your help!

We have an exciting week of events planned within the community! Last year, MDHA focused our efforts on long-term care and the year prior we focused on oral health education in schools. While both were extremely effective and appreciated, we’ve decided to again switch our focus to another target group. This year, we will be working with the Healthy Start for Mom and Me Parenting Program. We will be providing oral screenings and applying fluoride varnish (as necessary), as well as oral health education to new and expectant mothers and their children. And as always, the success of this year’s initiatives depends greatly on the generosity of our volunteer MDHA members.

We are working with 5 different parenting groups throughout National Dental Hygienists Week. The dates and groups are as follows:
• North End Parenting Program (Prenatal) – Tuesday, April 10, 2012
• Maples Parenting Program (Pre and Postnatal) – Tuesday, April 10, 2012
• Hope Parenting Program (Prenatal) – Wednesday, April 11, 2012
• Weston Parenting Program (Postnatal) – Wednesday, April 11, 2012
• Freight House Parenting Program (Prenatal) – Thursday April 12, 2012

The program runs from 1:30-3:00pm. The oral health presentations will run for the first 45 minutes to an hour then there will be a break for a snack and oral screenings and fluoride varnish application. The size of the groups vary from week to week and can have anywhere from 5 to 20 mothers and children.

MDHA is happy to provide volunteers with all the necessary supplies including toothbrushes (adult and children’s), a presentation plan, fluoride varnish, gloves, mirrors, ect.

Please email Kaleigh ( by Monday, April 2, 2012 if you would like more information or are interested in volunteering!

And don’t forget about the MDHA Blood Drive running all week during National Dental Hygienists Week. Call 1-888-2-DONATE to book your appointment today!

Thanks so much! And Happy National Dental Hygienists Week to you all!
