Local Anesthesia Course
This course will prepare the dental hygienist to become competent in the administration of both block and infiltration local anesthesia. Emphasis is placed on the mechanisms of pain and a thorough understanding of the pharmacology of dental drugs and their interactions with the client’s current conditions and medications.
This course consists of a minimum 6 weeks of self-study prior to the 3-day workshop.
The course is recognized by BC, AB, SK, MB, and is worth 30 continuing education points.
Participants must be graduates of an accredited Dental Hygiene Program and hold current licensure in their province or state of residence. They must also have current CPR certification and malpractice insurance.
Course Dates: May 4-6, 2012
Workshop Fees: $950.00 due by March 16, 2012.

MDHA Breakfast at the MDA Convention

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting (our formal business meeting) in June as we have done every year – so there is still an opportunity to get all the highlights of what your Association has been doing for you all year long. Details will be coming on this shortly!
Presentation Request at Victor Mager School
Victor Mager School, 81 Beliveau Road, Winnipeg has requested a few oral health presentations for grade 1 and 2 students.
There are a few different date options between November 22 and February 13.
As the school will be including the learning goals in our oral health presentations on the student’s records, they have requested that presentations focus on:
1.Why is it important to take care of our teeth?
2.What is the proper way of brushing our teeth?
3.What happens at a Dentist’s office?

Canadian Patient Safety Officer Course
The Canadian Patient Safety Officer Course (CPSO) is going to be offered again in 2012, in two different locations:
Vancouver, British Columbia – February 21st to 24th
Ottawa, Ontario – April 24th to 27th
The CPSO Course is a comprehensive patient safety course designed for healthcare professionals and leaders who understand the fundamentals of patient safety and have formal responsibility for disseminating patient safety principles and programs throughout their organizations.

The Conseil communauté en santé du Manitoba (CCS) is holding its forum “À notre santé… en français 2011” for all bilingual health professionals on November 3rd and 4th. This event offers numerous workshops, round table discussions and presentations on various topics, such as mental health, woman health, conflict and stress management, linguistic and cultural competency, innovative initiatives in health and social services, and much more. A great opportunity for bilingual professionals to learn, share and network!
